Metal sulphides have physical and chemical properties similar to metal oxides. However, pure metal sulphide nanocrystalline semiconductor gas-sensitive materials have some shortcomings, which restrict their application in the field of semiconductor gas-sensitive documents.

Researchers used manganese ion-doped surface state control strategies to effectively control the surface oxygen adsorption, carrier concentration and electron depletion layer of ZnS nanocrystals, and finally prepared a ZnS nanocrystal-based sensor array. At the same time, the 8-channel ZnS-based sensor array made by them has achieved rapid, highly sensitive and recognizable detection of non-standard explosives and their raw materials at room temperature. Also, the sensor array can identify and detect the atmosphere of conventional explosives. According to reports, the detection time of such sensors for non-standard explosives and their raw materials at room temperature does not exceed 13 seconds.
